How To Protect Your Car In A Hurricane

If you live in a hurricane-prone area, then you probably already know how important it is to have your belongings protected during a storm. You may know how to keep harm away from your home and family, but what about your four-wheeled transport? It’s a valuable belonging indeed and must be protected from storm-induced damages. Here’s how to protect your car in hurricanes.

Keep your covered and park in a safe space
You may think that only the exterior of your car is in danger during a hurricane, but the interiors are also at risk. For example, water can damage your engine or electrical wiring. By covering your car and making sure it is parked in a safe space, you can ensure that both the interiors and exteriors are preserved. The best option is to park in a garage, but if you don’t have one, try to find a parking spot close to a building where your car will have at least partial protection from strong winds.

Tape up your car windows
Your car windows can be very vulnerable during a hurricane. Strong winds may damage it, so to provide maximum protection, take up your windows. Take a making tape and apply it in a crisscross pattern on each window. This may prevent the glasses from shattering, and even in the unfortunate event that they are shattered, cleaning up would be a whole lot easier as the glass pieces would be held together by the tape.

Make sure your car is fuelled up
Before the hurricane hits, make sure that your car is fuelled up. When your tank is full, you can be confident that after the storm, you are prepared to leave and go to wherever you need to go without having to worry about an empty tank or having to stop for fuel on the way.

Remember to take before and after pictures
It’s always good to prepare yourself for anything, so make sure you get before and after snapshots of your car in case there is any damage and you need to claim insurance. Having a clear picture that shows the condition of your care before the hurricane and after will make the process much easier for you.
